About UnoraMoisture absorbing and soothing
Many people experience skin issues caused by moisture build-up, leakage, friction, or reactions to certain ostomy care products. These common challenges can quickly lead to painful rashes, irritation, and inflammation that affect comfort and everyday quality of life. Keeping the skin around your stoma healthy often starts with managing moisture and protecting the skin barrier — that's where alginate can help.
Alginate is a natural ingredient derived from seaweed, known for its moisture-absorbing and soothing properties. Commercial alginate is produced from algin — also known as "alginic acid" — which occurs naturally in brown seaweed. These seaweeds are harvested and mixed with water to form a soft, elastic gel that adapts well to different shapes.
Our Alginate baseplate is infused with 15% alginate. Designed to soothe the skin, it supports healthier skin around your stoma and may help you achieve a more comfortable, confident wear.
Did you know alginate comes from seaweed?
Alginate — also known as "algin" or alginic acid — occurs naturally in brown seaweed. Once harvested, the seaweed is combined with water to form a soft, elastic gel that adapts easily to different shapes and contours. This natural absorbency is what allows alginate to draw moisture away from the skin, helping to reduce irritation and support healthier skin around the stoma over time.
